According to the Associated Press, the Federal Government is getting ready to infuse another $5 billion into General Mmotors to hold the company over until they can submit a viable resrtucturing plan.
However, Fortune recently released their famous Fortune 500 list and guess where GM falls on this list? 200? 100? 50? Are they even on it? Yes, they’re on it; and they’re Number 6 (http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/fortune500/2009/snapshots/175.html).
According to Fortune, in 2008 GM had revenues of nearly $150 billion dollars. However, in the same time period of time, GM reported a profit loss of approximately $30 billion dollars. As these numbers show, the problem with General Motors is not that they are not selling cars. Profits are derived from subtracting costs from revenues. So therefore, in order for GM to be in the black, it would appear that they simply need to reduce their costs. They could reduce their cost of materials used in their products, however, this could potentially lead to a lower quality product or less vehicles produced. Or, GM could reduce their labor costs. Would it not make sense that in a time when GM is facing bankruptcy some of the employees make concessions? Maybe I am missing some some of the sentiment here, so if anyone can explain why the risk of no job sounds more appealing than the risk of having a job that pays less please let me know.
Oh yeah, costs for GM could also be reduced by reducing the corporate taxes that they are required by law to pay….gasp…who has ever brought that up as a potential way to save the auto giants? As well as American business in general?

From the Left in the West
“As I understand it, this so called “grass roots” (funded by millionaire rightwingers and their “think tanks”/consulting firms) uprising…”
If “big sage” knows these millionaires, I’d love to get in touch with them, ’cause I’m not getting paid for organizing the Tea Party and could really use some funding.
And the last time I checked, Forward Montana is definietly funded by Soros (not that I fault them, but a spade is a spade).

This is the right way to protect your rights.
Kandy Kyriacou and Ojoma Omaga said the College of Alameda accused them of “disruptive behavior” after they had prayed with an ailing teacher in a faculty office in December of 2007, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
The students said the school issued suspension notices to them.
Although public colleges are prohibited from endorsing religion, U.S. District Judge Susan Illston ruled that the women can proceed with a lawsuit against Peralta Community College District.
Illston said college students have the right to pray in private outside the classroom, according to the Chronicle.
The lawsuit seeks an acknowledgment of that right and an apology, and wants all disciplinary action be rescinded, said one of the pair’s lawyers, Steven Wood.
The women want no damages apart from attorneys’ fees, the paper reported.
The district’s attorneys argued that faculty offices were “places for teaching and learning and working” not “protests, demonstrations, prayer” or other disruptive activities.
I believe that if we do not fight for our rights they will be taken from us. But this is the way it should be done; there is no reason to ask for large sums of money when justice is all that you really need.
