Missoula Tax Day Tea Party

Posted on 25 March 2009 by admin

I am pleased to announce that Just Citizens is organizing Missoula’s Tax Day Tea Party!

When: Wednesday, April 15th 12p – 1p
Where: Outside the Downtown Post Office, Missoula

The Tax Day Tea Party is a national collaborative grassroots effort organized by online conservative groups/coalitions including the dontgo movement and Just Citizens.

The Tea Party protests, in their current form, began in early 2009 when Rick Santelli, the On Air Editor for CNBC, set out on a rant to expose the bankrupt liberal agenda of the White House Administration and Congress. Specifically, the flawed “Stimulus Bill” and pork filled budget.

During Rick’s rant, he called for a “Chicago tea Party” where advocates of the free-market system could join in a protest against out of control government spending.

A few days later, grassroots activists and average Joe Americans began organizing what would soon become the Nationwide Chicago Tea Party effort.

On February 27th, an estimated 30,000 Americans took to the street in 40+ cities accross the country in the first nationwide “Tea Party” protest.

Organizers of the February 27th events pledged to continue on with an even bigger and better protest to follow the first. With April 15th being “Tax Day”, it was decided to schedule the second round of Tea Party protests to ride alongside the tax deadline.

And with that, the “Tax Day Tea Party”, the second round of the Nationwide Tea Party protests, moved into reality.

For information about other Montana Tea Parties (and there is probably one near you!) please visit the official Tax Day Tea Party site.

The Missoula Tea Party is being organizend through the efforts of Just Citizens. It will be from 12:00p – 1:00p on April 15th in downtown Missoula. For further details about the Tax Day Tea Party or Just Citizens, please visit our website or the facebook group.

Chickasaw Subdivision Failed

Posted on 03 March 2009 by admin

Annexation of the subdivision was denied by the Missoula City Council, when the Council vote did not reach the super majority required to overcome the petition against the proposal. Chickasaw Place would have been located along South Seventh Street West, approximately 1/4 miles west of Tower Street. The testimony was lengthy and varied during the subsequent two Council Meetings; developers, land owners and many others voiced concerns. The discussion ranged from neighborhood character to property rights.

However, the the issue that caused the most contention was the agricultural set aside required by the city; 3 acres or about 1/3 of the property. The motion failed with 7 aye votes and 5 nays, regardless of the issues.

This subdivision brought to light a serious gap in Missoula Zoning law and inconsistencies in city/county planning regarding agriculture.
